TONS of Costumes

I noticed that costume posts are extremely popular, so I thought that I'd do a post with as many costumes that are being used it our show as I can. They aren't in any particular order, but I'll tell you what they are and what class is wearing it.
Tap Intro, Lollipops in the candy shop

Ballet 1, Ginerbread children in the Factory

Modern 1, Chefs that cook for Augustus Gloop when he gets his ticket

Girls Hip Hop ages 6-11, Children at the candy shop (they are dancing to "I want Candy" by Aaron Carter)

Intermediate Tap (my class!), Golden Tickets
Ballet 2, Spanish Chocolate in the Candy room in the factory

Creative Movement ages 5-7, Waitresses the bring on the food that Modern 1 makes!

Pre-ballet, Gumdrops in Pure Imagination

Modern 3&4, Pure Imagination Candy (Modern 3 has pink and orange, Modern 4 has green and yellow)

Ballet 3, Russian Candy in the factory

Ballet 3 boy, yes we have one boy in Ballet 3 and that's what he's wearing

Modern 2& Jazz 4, Oompa Loompas (Jazz 4 wears red and white, and takes care of Augustus Gloop. Modern 2 wears blue and green, and takes care of Mike TV, both classes are wearing Gaucho capris and striped socks!)

The Year Has Come to a Close

I really can't believe dance is already over for the year! I still feel like I'm brand new to Ballet 4, while in truth, I just finished a full year! So here's for the record:

There were roughly 36 weeks of class
I took 6 classes a week this year
That means there were 216 classes for me to attend
I missed 2 classes due to Sleepovers
I came to 214\216 classes
I attended 99.07% of my classes

YAY ME!!!! LOL, I'm so humble.

As for recital preparations, here's what's going on:
Lots of rehearsals. Wednesday in particular is gonna be a little stressful. I believe that I've talked about how Pre-ballet, modern 4, and my modern class are all in the same dance. Well, we are having a rehearsal to practice stringing all the parts together. The Modern 4 teacher won't be there cause she's on her honeymoon (she got married today :)), and the Pre-ballet teacher has to work. So... Since I'm the assistant of Pre-Ballet, I'm responsible for them... I'm a teensy bit nervous about that. Modern 4 is dancing with colorguard flags, which if you get wacked with one of the flag poles, it can give you a concussion. Seriously, I'm not kidding. Examine the picture below:

(not my photo)

So I guess it'll be my modern teacher for us and modern 4 and me for Pre-ballet. Anyway, then I have a rehearsal with my Jazz class and Ballet 2 to practice Augustus Gloops getting sucked in the chocolate river, cause ballet 2 is the chocolate river. I think that one will be pretty easy. Then finally I have a rehearsal with Ballet 3 and 3x (I'm in both) to practice our dance together. That one will be fine. I'm sure of it. But anyway, now you know what's up with me.

Never forget.... The Sandwich Quality?

You are probably wondering "What the heck is Jasmine talking about?"

Well, my tap class has two dances, the shorter one is really bubbly and just over exaggerated. One of the girls in my class made up a great analogy for this dance that I want to share with you. We call it "The sandwich quality".

The bread, is the bread of life. We are alive, and we are doing a lively tap dance.

And now we need to add the cheese. As in the cheesiness.

Finally we have to be a "ham"!

Put it all together and you've got...
...The Sandwich Quality!

A Stoke of Reality...

Reality is caving in on me... I'm just like, yeah, we're not quite ready yet, but we have plenty of time. We don't have plenty of time... AT ALL.

Here's our status:

Ballet 3: We're done, but a bit shaky

Ballet 3x: NOT EVEN CLOSE to done! My teacher has been at rehearsal for Cinderella the past couple weeks, so we've just practiced with the sub.

Ballet 4: We're done, but we need some serious practice

Tap: This Class is actually ready to perform!!!!

Jazz: We finished yesterday, it's a 3 minute dance, needless to say, we're getting there.

Modern: We're done, it's pretty good.

I look at the calendar... We have two classes, an in-studio rehearsal, dress rehearsal, and the show. WOW.

Lot's of Fun Today!

It is 7:45 right now. But 7:45 AM is not what is in my head right now. I have lots of plans today... Lots of dance related plans. AND I'M EXCITED!!! Here's what I'm doing today:

I am going to ballet class like any other Saturday....

Then after that, I am going home like any other Saturday....

BUT, rather than hanging out with my BFF all day (which I love to do, but not today), I'm going back to the dance studio for performance company auditions...

Next, I'm going out to dinner with some friends from dance...

And lastly, we are all going to go see my Ballet teacher in Cinderella! HE is playing and Ugly Stepsister (and he has to dance in a dress, a wig, AND En Pointe!!!!)

Modern Music and Schedules...

As you know, I got new music for my modern comp!!! The old music was waaaay to dramatic. So here's my new (and BETTER!) music! Our showing is today (yikes!).

Also, we got our schedules for next year the other day! Here are the classes that I will be in, along with my commentary about each:

Ballet 4x: Woohoo! I moved up!

Ballet 4: I did this class this year, and I will do it again next year because it is highly recommended that you take 2 or more ballet classes a week. Maybe I'll get to do barre en pointe for this class next year.

Pointe 3: We start pirrouettes en pointe in pointe 3!!!!

Pointe 2: Once again, I already did this class this year, but I'm gonna take it again next year.

Modern 3: I did not move up in Modern this year, but I didn't think I would. Modern 4 is as high as it gets, so if I did move up, I'd be in Modern 4 for 5 years. Also, I'm the youngest in my modern class. I actually WANTED to stay in Modern 3, because all my friends were in Modern 2 last year, so most of them will be Modern 3 this year, and I LOVE the teacher for Modern 3.

Tap 3: I'm not exactly sure why I'm in tap 3, but I don't really care. If I did move up to tap 4, I wouldn't get to go to D-group (biblestudy), because it's at the same time as Tap 4.

Jazz 5: YAY! I moved up! That makes me super duper uper happy to know that I'm doing well in Jazz, since this year was my very first year.

Company 1: Well, I don't know for sure if I'm doing this, because you have to audition, but they don't normally turn people down.

Ballet 3x: If I get into Company, then I'm only gonna do this class after company is over (which is January). It will be my third year in 3x, but I don't care.

Soul Surfer Movie Review

Hey Everyone! As you can tell, I just got back from seeing the movie "Soul Surfer" with a couple of friends! We had a blast, and the movie was phenomenal!

However, before I do my review, I would like to address a very important factor. This is a VERY religious movie. As Bethany Hamilton is a christian, and says that Jesus was what gave her her hope and courage, the movie talks a lot about it. I completely agree with this, however, if you read any secular reviews, you will see that the critique thrashes the movie apart. As a christian, I have a different view on this movie, so here is my view:

"Soul Surfer" is a movie based on a true story about a 13 year old girl named Bethany Hamilton. Bethany loves to surf, but one morning while she was in the water, a 14 foot tiger shark came and took her left arm. Bethany lost 60% of her blood, but still survived. When she leaves the hospital, she quickly discovers how hard life was gonna be with only one arm.

The movie was amazing. The special effects were incredible. The actors were not the least bit cheesey. The whole thing was EXTREMELY well done. The movie was very accurate to the whole story.

Most people are who are squeemish (like me!), are hesitant to see the movie because they are afraid that the shark attack would be really gross and bloody. As far as gorriness, you see blood poor into the water. Then after the get to shore, one of Bethany's companions wraps his shirt around her shoulder. You see a bloody shirt around her shoulder, but that's all for blood. Honestly, it really wasn't that gross, and if I had to pick the grossest part, it would be after they got ashore, Bethany's friend Alana got really upset and scared, and started throwing up.

My favorite part, was when Bethany went to Thailand after a tsunami, she meets a little boy who (like everyone else in Thailand) is scared to go in the water due to the tsunami. Bethany asked another kid if she could borrow his board, and then teaches the little boy how to surf. It was so sweet!

In conclusion, this was the best movie made in the 21st century that I have ever seen! It was such an inspirational story, and crazy to think that the whole thing was a true story! I would definitely reccomend this movie to anyone.
