Dance Fashion- Part 2, Jazz\Lyrical Attire

So today, we will be doing Jazz\Lyrical\Modern Attire. I generally wouldn't dress like this for Jazz or Modern, I normally wear what you will see in Part 3. But here's what is in style.
So we start with a top. I'm generally a tank top\camisole person, because you don't get to hot. I like to layer to different colors since you can probably tell that I'm a pretty colorful person.

Now we have shorts. Like I said, this isn't something that I would wear to class, but this is what's in style right now. However, you wouldn't JUST wear shorts...

... Once again, we have our capri length tights! It is so cute and fun to wear those underneath the shorts that I have shown above.

To top off your classic ponytail, get a fun sports headband that matches your tights! They really add pop to your hair, and make if more fun, while holding your hair out of the way!

Dance Fashion- Part 1, Ballet Attire

I don't follow fashion trends... It's just not my style... Well, with the exception of dance fashion, for the next couple posts, I will share some dance fashion tips. Today we will start with Ballet Attire. This will be super helpful to those lucky people out there who get to wear "Whatever they want". I have to wear a black leotard, light pink tights, and light pink ballet shoes. However, we can wear any style of leotard (as long as it's black), and do whatever we want in our hair. So here we go!

Leotards with beautiful patterns on the back are ALWAYS the way to go. They are also a fairly easy way to express yourself. A few studios have a school leotard, but most just have color guidelines.

This is probably the hardest to get away with, but if you are lucky, get some fun, colorful capri length tights! They are super fun, and you can get them in dozens of colors. Oh, but don't put them over your leotard like they do in this picture, it's rather 80's, but hardly vintage...

If your studio allows skirts, I'm eternally jelous of you. I would LOVE to wear skirts, but unfortunately, we can't. If you are allowed to, get something that describes your personality. You can get bright funky stripes, or you can get soft pastel roses, it's all up to you!

Finally, get a pretty flower to go in your bun! I LOVE flower hairclips, and most studios allow them, so give them a try! You can get all different kinds of flowers, so choose what suits you!

Finally, here you get to see my dream ballet class attire. I would love to wear this outfit to ballet class, unfortunately skirts and capri tights are not included in our dress code, and the outfit comes to a total of about $50... Oh well.

P.S. If you are feeling super brave, check out Grishko for some awesome pointe shoes!
I do not own any of these pictures.

What Inspires Me Most

Of all things, what inspires me is what I look like when I'm finished with the step. No matter how tiring the work is, when your leg is higher than your ear, you feel great when it's there. And as tiring as putting all those steps together, you feel great to know that you have potential. And as tiring as all those moments of great potential can be, I just know that if that day of  becoming a real ballerina comes, it will be worth it all, and suddenly, that developpe above your ear just doesn't seem so bad.

Summer Job...

Oh Summer... Why must you be so slow? Or more like... Oh June... Why must you be so slow? As hard as I've tried to make the most out of my days. It's still slow. So here's what's up with me:

I have been trying to go to as many events with my Youth Group at church as possible. I have a Wednesday babysitting job right now, so I can't go to Swim N' Study (summer biblestudy). However they also do a fun event called Mystery Monday. It's where we meet at the church every Monday and we do something fun, like have a scavenger hunt, go to the movie theater, trips to a water park, etc.! Sadly, I have to miss tonight, cause I have to go to this Boy Scout potluck with my family. B-O-R-I-N-G.

Anyway, you probably saw the title and want to know what my job is! It's hardly called a "Job" because it's only for a little over an hour every week. But anyway, I got a call from a teacher at my dance studio asking me to be a Summer Assistant!!! I'm so excited that I get to help out over the summer as well as during the regular year! I also get to work with a new age group, because I'm helping with a 3-4 class, which is what I normally do, as well as a 5-7 class! I start tommorrow, and it's every week for 6 weeks, so anyway, YIPEE!

P.S. Apparently, there is a lot of cbox spamming going around right now. It happened to Quinlyn over at Quinny & Co. and I've heard that it has happened to a lot of people, so I have decided to temporairily remove the cbox. Sorry for this inconvienence!

My Extraordinarily Boring Summer...

I'm bored. Really really bored. Summer is boring. I don't like boring. I don't like Summer. I don't like Summer because Summer is boring. Enough said.

So here's the scoop on what's up with dance:

I have a 6 week break, it is dragging by oh so slowly....

Then I have dance intensive for 5 hours a day, everyday for two weeks.

Then I have a 1 week break :(

Then I have Company camp, which is 3 hours a day, everyday for 1 week when we learn our dances.

Then we have Company rehearsal twice a week until Classes start again in the Fall.

I am MISERABLE without dance. I'm just SO BORED!!!!!!!!! I want to take some Summer classes. Just Ballet and Jazz. However, paying for the whole session would be $216 JUST FOR TWO CLASSES PER WEEK! And even then, I would only go to four weeks worth of classes because they run through the two weeks of dance intensive as well! You can pay for an individual class, but it's $20... Meaning that it would cost $160 for me to take during the summer during that break from now till dance intensive... I don't think that's gonna work...

Life is full of Wonderfulness

Recital.was.amazing.

Let's just start by stating the obvious. We had sooooooooooo much fun! Here are a couple of pictures that should do no harm to anybody.

Hanging out in the "big room" as we called it.

Practicing Hip Hop

Drawing Pictures

Playing Card Games

Learning to Fly?

I think I did really well, and I can't think of any mistakes really other than being a little (OK really,) shaky during character on Friday night. I have decided to get the Saturday night DVD because that is when my Creative Movement class danced, and I think I did better overall. Here are some funny\awesome things that happened.

We all wanted to play peanut butter\BS, but of course we don't like what BS stands for so we started coming up with funny things to say instead, we came up with Bobby Stewart, Beautiful Sunshine, Bologne Sandwich, and someone said Burger Souflee, I thought they said Booger Souflee, so we all started joking about Booger Souflee, and I wouldn't be surprised if we were still on the topic of Booger Souflee when we go back to class in the fall.

My ballet teacher always gives up a piece of chocolate with a sticker on the wrapper before the show. This year he decided to give us a piece for every class of his that we take, and he said that I got the most chocolate of everybody, because I was in 3 of his classes!

I was the last one out of the big room with all there stuff at dress rehearsal and both recitals... I'm very slow, and I check a million times to make sure I had all the pieces from all 5 stinkin' costumes

The girl playing the candyman had a tray full of REAL candy, so after the show we got to take it apart and eat all the candy.

The best part of the whole show, of course, was winning the "Young Dancer Award". On Friday night, I got a certificate (which you saw in the previous post), and a plaque on Saturday.

(yes, I scratched out my last name)

I Didn't Expect this to happen...

Well, we had the first night of Recital last night, and it went EXTREMELY well! It was a ton of fun! I'll do a more in-depth post tomorrow, because we have our second performance tonight. I do however want to tell you one story.

Every year they give out a couple of different awards:

The Teaching Acknowlegement (To an assistant teacher who has done a great job)

The Young Dancer Award (To a student between the ages of 11 and 14 who seems to show a lot of potential)

The Most Improved Award (Title speaks for itself, generally is given to a girl 14+)

Most Dedicated Award (To a student who has put a lot of effort in, usually 14+)

The Student of the Year (The biggest award, is given to a Junior or Senior in highschool. We also raise money to give that girl a scholarship for there summer dance intensive.)

They always announce the winners at the show (except the Student of the Year who knows a couple months in advance so that she can plan what to do with the scholarship.) So they were announcing all the awards when I hear:

I was in shock! But I'm so excited! I was looking back on the girls who have received the award in the past, they have done really well, so I hope that happens with me to!!!!!!
